Marta Welander

Marta has been a human rights and social justice activist since the age 13 with a particular interest in gender equality and the rights of people in displacement. She was particularly concerned with the recently unfolding “refugee crisis” in Europe and the striking levels of injustice unfolding in countries with otherwise relatively good human rights records domestically. Marta sought to channel her sectoral experience into addressing this ‘crisis’ through advocacy and campaigning and thus Refugee Rights Europe was born with the support of passionate and competent individuals. Refugee Rights Europe has a vision of the world where refugees and displaced people seeking sanctuary in Europe are afforded universally adopted human rights and are treated with dignity and justice. As an incidental leader for social change, Marta has onboarded more than 70 volunteers over the past two years to galvanise change and is honoured to work with an amazing bunch of people.
